Fine, winter in Ireland might not be the most exciting prospect, but like most things it is what you make of it. With that in mind, here are some of the best gigs coming up in the next month to bring a bit of fun into the dark December nights. It also serves as a reminder that you don’t need to fork out a hundred quid to afford to see some incredible live music!
Sorcha Richardson, The National Concert Hall, 29th November
First up is Irish singer-songwriter Sorcha Richardson. Forming her first band at age 10, she has since established herself as a successful solo artist, with her sound full of lo-fi indie and folk rock. Coming off an extended tour in the US, Richardson will be playing a short Irish tour. She is starting in Galway and moving on to Dublin and Limerick before rounding off in Cork. With her music characterised by soft dreamy vocals and melodic guitar lines, this is an NCH debut not to miss.

Ruth Mac, The Workman’s Cellar, 5th December
Originally from Galway, this groovy Berlin-based singer-songwriter promises to be a delight to watch. Playing music from her upcoming EP, set to be released early next year, we can expect some effortlessly smooth vocals paired with groovy bass lines and chilled synth beats. With her sound described as “idiosyncratic soul-infused indie”, what’s not to love?

Síomha, Whelans, 6th December
This incredible Irish singer straddles and blends genres like folk, jazz and soul to create her unique sound. With her powerful voice, Síomha is an exciting and captivating listen for any concert-goer. From intimate acoustic sets to bold and funky soul-inspired tracks, this is sure to be an enjoyable evening.

Nell Mescal, Whelans, 13th December
Hailing from none other than Maynooth itself, Nell Mescal, with her effortless stage presence and mesmerising vocals, is always a pleasure to see perform. Following the release of her new EP ‘Teeth’, her upbeat indie-pop music is catchy, heartfelt and beautiful. Joined my Amy Michelle, she is set to go on tour around Ireland, before setting off to England in the new year.

The Altered Hours, The Workmans Cellar, 15th December
This Irish rock group explores the art-punk movement, following in the footsteps of The Velvet Underground and Pixies. The duality of their male/female lead vocals from Elaine Howley and Cathal MacGabhann pairs brilliantly with Nora Lewon’s drums alongside bass guitar and effects from Patrick Cullen. This date is one of 7 others on their upcoming tour of the UK and Ireland, playing cities like London and Glasgow, before finishing with a homecoming to their native Limerick.

Asha Ari, Upstairs in Whelans, 17th December
Asha Ari combines pop with elements of soul and RnB. Her relatable and inspiring song writing, in combination with her infectious stage presence, is always something to get excited about. Following the release of her most recent single, ‘Dancing But it Don’t Feel Right’, this all-female line up is set to be an evening of amazing fun.

Kiana Ledé, The Academy, 19th December
If you like a blend of RnB and pop, then this is the gig for you. Following the release of her most recent album, ‘Grudges’, Kiana Ledé has begun her world tour, set to round it off with her Dublin date as her last show this year. Speaking to RnB Lounge, Ledé said she makes and performs music for people to feel connected and less alone. With that being said, this gig is bound to be full of fun and like-minded music lovers.
