The Cutest Cafés For Studying (And Eating) In Maynooth

This week, I made it my business to find the best cafes to study at in Maynooth.

To add excitement to my usual work routine I visited your favourite and most popular study sites as well as a few hidden ones. While the coffee was great, the question that most interested me was can the cafe get the homework done?

The Nutmeg

First up is the Nutmeg Bakery, Mill Street. This charming cafe had sweet staff and drinks with a selection of lattes, mochas, hot chocolates and milkshakes. The ultimate stop for a student with plugs available to act as charging stations, student meal deals and an abundance of tasty treats, this cafe was a cosy, adorable place to get work done. While The Nutmeg is a comfortable place to get productive, the meals can be a bit pricey and on the small side!

Royal City Korean

This beauty was such a lavish place to work at with its lovely staff, gorgeous decor, tasty food and free outlets. They have a wide range of yummy meals and drinks (I recommend the soju mojito), with plenty of gluten free, vegan and budget-friendly options.  However, access to Royal City may be difficult for wheelchair users, due to the stairs on entry.

Coffee Mill

The warm, inviting atmosphere complete with decadent cakes and desserts makes this cafe a must try. The reasonable pricing, outdoor seating and pleasant staff make it a wonderful experience. This cafe is popular for many reasons, so this cafe can be quite busy and distracting at times but it has some great cups of coffee! I would recommend visiting as a treat after study, rather than actually studying here.

Lily’s

This cute outdoor cafe complete with delicious crepes and waffles will uplift any study session.  Adorable! However, because of its outdoor location, I wouldn’t recommend using it as a place to study.

Starbucks

I had high expectations for this well-loved cafe but... pricey coffee! Located in the library, it is a convenient stop to get a drink but I would not recommend studying here!  I think it’s a lot more productive to grab your coffee and head back upstairs to continue working.

Costa

The yummy treats here can make anyone’s day and are specially needed when studying. The coffee is, in my opinion, overpriced but the ambience is cosy, comfortable and perfect for autumn. This is not the most ideal place to study, however, as its constantly overcrowded. There are also not a lot of plugs available to charge your laptop.

O’ Briens

Our last contender for today is a well-loved cafe and I think it’s perfect for group studying! I would not recommend going there for independent study, due to the bustling business. However, it has a lovely atmosphere that’s perfect for group work. The sandwiches are divine too!

Happy studying!
