Self Care On A Budget

Being a student can be stressful. (Understatement of the year here!) You’re tired all the time from college and work assignments, lacking in nutrients (thanks, diet-consisting-solely-of-pasta!) and most importantly you’re broke. Here are my top 5 inexpensive ways to treat yourself!

Guided Meditation or Yoga

Get back in the zone with some guided meditation! You can look up some effective YouTube videos that will walk you through everything you need to destress. I personally really like the free videos that HeadSpace has uploaded to their YouTube channel. Yoga can be helpful too. I adore Yoga With Adrienne! She has videos for a wide range of levels, ranging from beginner to intermediate to advanced.

Take a long bath or shower

Is there anything better than lighting your favourite scented candle, turning off all the lights and soaking in the bath for a good hour while listening to “All Too Well- TAYLOR’S VERSION- 10 Minute version”? I think not. Do a facemask too! Lidl has really decent ones for less than 2 quid! Throw them in the fridge before you use them for some extra TLC!

Take a long walk on South Campus

South Campus is beautiful during the Autumn season. Additionally, there is a cute little park that is open to the public behind the college, and it is gorgeous! I personally always feel like all is right with the world after going for a walk on South Campus. You can even see some cute wildlife there too if you are lucky! (Shoutout to squirrels for personally lifting me out of the worst of moods!)

Wash your bed covers

Does it sound kind of silly and that I am tricking you into doing chores? Yes. Will it help? Absolutely. Seriously though, is there anything better than getting into fresh sheets after shaving your legs and getting into clean pjs? An absolute game changer.

Stop procrastinating

Are you actually stressed, or do you just need to do your assignment? Stop putting it off. You will feel so much better once you start it. If starting it seems impossible, then break it down into chunks. When you first sit down, aim to write 50 words. Once you surpass 50 words aim to write 60 more, then 70 etc.

Happy self-caring!
